I developed a passion for building acoustic stringed instruments in the late 1990’s but life and career demands kept this passion on the back burner. Over the past several years my love for luthiery has evolved into a rewarding, enriching and soulful full-time endeavor.

I grew up in Tennessee and developed a love for music at an early age. Tony Rice, Clarence White, Norman Blake, Doc Watson, and Bill Monroe were just a few of the masters who cultivated my love for music.

Prior to devoting myself to the art and craft of luthiery I’ve had several interesting professions. Following high school, I served in the United States Marine Corps, followed by several years as an electrician, and then as an electrical engineer in the defense industry as a radar systems analyst. I was ultimately drawn to medicine, and have practiced primarily as an Internal Medicine Physician caring for hospitalized patients for the past 20 years.

My love of acoustic music eventually brought me back around to the path of luthiery. I am now focused on building steel string acoustic guitars. Over the years I have come to appreciate how guitars create a widely subjective experience for the musicians that play them. We all have our own ideas of the qualities that make the perfect guitar - volume, projection, responsiveness, sustain, balance, dynamic range, to name a few. My practice involves using traditional construction methods along with science and advanced acoustic engineering principles to enhance those individual qualities for the purpose of creating the best feel, touch, sound and overall experience for the individual musician.

My goal is not to build one particular guitar that will appeal to the greatest number of musicians, but to collaborate with guitarists on an individual basis. The instrument that results from that collaboration will be one that speaks directly to the heart of the musician, enabling them to grow and develop their voice to the fullest potential.

In a cedar hollow, just south of Sequim, Washington, on the Olympic Peninsula, in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains is where all this happens - where your inspiration is waiting to be born.
